Everything you need to know about laser eye surgery in Somerset West

Tired of dealing with glasses or contact lenses? Laser eye surgery might be the solution you’ve been searching for. At Atlantic Eye Laser Centre in Somerset West, we help people experience the freedom of clear vision every day. If you’ve ever wondered what laser eye surgery involves, who it’s suitable for, and how it can improve your life, this blog is for you.

What is Laser Eye Surgery?

Laser eye surgery is a safe, effective procedure designed to correct common vision problems like short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Using advanced laser technology, we reshape the cornea, helping your eyes focus light more accurately. The result? Clearer vision without glasses or contacts.

How Does Laser Eye Surgery Work?

At Atlantic Eye Laser Centre, we use cutting-edge technology to perform this life-changing procedure. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  1. Free LASIK Screening: We start with a complimentary LASIK screening to determine if you might be a suitable candidate.
  2. Initial Assessment: If the screening shows you’re a good candidate, you’ll have a consultation with Dr. James Beatty in Somerset West, where we assess your eyes in more detail.
  3. Procedure Day: The procedure itself takes about 20 minutes for both eyes and will take place in our clinic in Foreshore, with minimal discomfort.
  4. Recovery: Most people notice an improvement in their vision within 24-48 hours.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Not everyone is suitable for laser eye surgery. Here are some factors we consider:

  • You’re over 18 years old.
  • Your prescription has been stable for at least a year.
  • You have healthy eyes with no major underlying issues.

The best way to know if you're eligible is to take our self-test.

Benefits of laser eye surgery

  • Freedom: No more glasses slipping down your nose or contact lenses drying out.
  • Convenience: Enjoy sports, travel, and everyday activities with ease.
  • Confidence: Many patients feel more confident without glasses.

Is laser eye surgery safe?

Laser eye surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures worldwide, with a high success rate. At Atlantic Eye Laser Centre, we prioritise your safety by using advanced diagnostic tools and proven techniques.

What to expect after the procedure

After your procedure, you’ll need someone to drive you home. Most patients return to normal activities within a few days, with follow-up visits to monitor progress.
