Who is Dr Daemon McClunan

Dr Daemon McClunan is an Ophthalmologist and researcher with specialist qualifications from Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town. He founded Atlantic Eye Laser Centre and LIQID Medical, and holds four patents for ophthalmic devices. He is also involved in training the next generation of ophthalmologists at Groote Schuur and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospitals.

Dr McClunan achieved his medical degree with distinction in Ophthalmology from Stellenbosch University in 2009. During his specialist training at Groote Schuur Hospital, he received the Geoff Howes and Ophthalmic Society meda

During his community service year, Dr McClunan undertook a 15,000km motorbike journey across Southern Africa to conduct rural eye screenings as part of a non-profit expedition. This experience showcased his commitment to serving communities in need. Following his Specialist training at the University of Cape Town, Dr McClunan gained international exposure through observership programmes in Laser Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma and Advanced Cataract surgery at eye institutes in Toronto, Germany, India, and London.

Beyond his clinical and innovative contributions to ophthalmology, Dr McClunan enjoys spending quality time with his family and engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, diving, and kite surfing. His philanthropic efforts include providing free eye screenings in underserved communities and participating in international observership programmes.
